Clooney's 'Leatherheads' Fumbles
2008-04-06
the same weekend Heston dies. Karma's a bitch:
In receiving a special filmmaking achievement award from the National Board of Reviews, actor George Clooney joked that "Charlton Heston announced again today that he is suffering from Alzheimer's."

Clooney still had a chance to apologize for the bad humor day. When questioned about the remark by New York Newsday, Clooney sputtered: "I don't care. Charlton Heston is the head of the National Rifle Association. He deserves whatever anyone says about him."

enjoy your boxoffice bomb, asshole

#10  I've actually liked some of Clooney's films. Three Kings was pretty good, for example.

But as an advocate of the loonie left and a proponent for gun control, Clooney should keep his big, freaking, uneducated mouth shut.

What gives people who act in Hollywood, make millions of dollars, and don't even have a college degree think they're God's gift to to the masses?

George, I love yer' acting. Now, shut up and act, and stop trying to be anything you are not (ie, you're an actor, nothing more, nothing less, and that doesn't make you an intellectual or give you the right to lecture me or anyone else in America, ya' halfwit).

#9  when the trailers suck, and they're the highlights, you know the movie sucks

That's snark o' the week material, right there, Frank...and it's only Sunday!

BTW, I think someone should take this quote and use it at the next awards show. It's funny, and pokes fun at someone who thinks they're God's gift to wimmin, but is not.

#8  Clooney, 46, directed and starred in "Leatherheads," a $58 million farce set in the early days of American professional football. He claims he also rewrote much of Duncan Brantley and Rick Reilly's script, which had been languishing for 17 years, introducing its screwball tone. But his request for credit was denied by the Writers Guild of America and he resigned from the union as a voting member in protest.

Critics have savaged the film, particularly the script.
According to Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com), a Web site that aggregates reviews, only 36 percent of top critics liked the film.

Despite his fame and fortune, Clooney is a risky box office bet. He was last in theaters with "Michael Clayton," which earned $10.4 million during its first weekend of wide release in October. The acclaimed legal thriller finished with a disappointing $49 million but did pick up seven Oscar nominations.

#6  With a movie if they start showing the ads for it about six months before it's released to get the big first weekend box office before the reviews come in, ya kinda know it's gonna suck.

#5  Even better than Christian Bale has pwned them in the gig. IMHO - he's the guy. Just like they floundered after Sean Connery in the 007 films, the new guy, Daniel Craig (after my initial misgivings), is great! Clooney's reaching and except for Oceans 11-17+, hasn't had a hit - Michael Clayton didn't make a profit - yet. Syriana was a bomb

#2  Clooney? What movies did he make? As for Mr. Heston, his movies are aired on prime time every year on all the important holidays. And will for the next 100 years.
