Foreign soldier among 16 killed in Afghan clash |

A foreign soldier, two policemen and 12 Taliban were killed in clashes in a key Afghan opium-producing area on Sunday, while three troops were hurt in a suicide blast in Kandahar city. The soldier with the United States-led coalition was killed “while conducting operations” in the south-western province of Farah, the force said in a statement that gave no further details. Twelve Taliban were also killed in the clashes, said police spokesman for western Afghanistan, Abdul Mutalib Rad. Kandhar: Meanwhile, a suicide car bomb blew up near NATO troops in the southern city of Kandahar, Canadian and Afghan officials said on Sunday. Three soldiers with NATO’s multinational International Security Assistance Force were wounded, ISAF spokesman Major Martin O’Donnell told AFP. He did not provide the nationalities of the soldiers. One child died while two children were hurt in the blast, Afghan police said. Canadian Captain Fraser Clark confirmed the bombing was a suicide attack. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the suicide attack. Qari Yousef Ahmadi, a spokesman for the militant group, identified the attacker as Mullah Naqibullah, from the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province. |
