'Fatah al-Islam not involved in bombing' |
2008-06-10 |
Fatah al-Islam has denied any involvement in an attack on a Lebanese army intelligence center near the country's border with Syria. Fatah al-Islam in a statement denied the media reports that the group had claimed responsibility for an attack on a military center in the Abda-Akkar region on Saturday, the Lebanese daily al-Akhbar reported. An army soldier was killed in the bombing. The group added statements published by sources other than Fatah al-Islam's web site does not necessarily reflect the viewpoint of the group and are aimed at undermining the faction. On Monday, a statement was sent to news agencies claiming that the al-Qaeda-inspired group was behind the bombing. Fatah al-Islam engaged in a deadly battle with the Lebanese army in 2007, which was considered as the deadliest conflict in the country after the civil war. |
