TIKRIT, Iraq – Coalition force helicopters flying in northern Iraq helped capture four suspected criminals involved with emplacing improvised explosive devices near Tikrit June 20. UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters attached to the “Nightmares” 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Aviation Regiment spotted four suspicious persons south of Tikrit, and altered area ground forces. The four men were later detained by Coalition forces. Further investigation confirmed the individuals were involved in previous IED incidents near Tikrit.
The TF 3-1 AA “Nightmares,” along with the rest of the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division are responsible for aerial coverage throughout Multi-National Division – North.
“The capture of these four individuals will have a significant impact on IED emplacement in the Tikrit area,” said Maj. Enrique T. Vasquez, CAB, 1st ID public affairs officer.
