2008-06-25
Three terror suspects confessed on Tuesday to plotting suicide attacks at sensitive government buildings and to having links with militant leader Baitullah Mehsud.

Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Chaudhry Taufeeq Ahmad recorded the confession statements of Abid Khan, Muhammad Ishaq and Qamaruz Zaman. The three were sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand for 14 days and the case was adjourned until July 8.

Court sources told Daily Times that the accused had also confessed to planning a suicide attack targeting a “high profile personality”. They said the three were included in the nine people arrested in a large-scale raid in the city, and a massive quantity of explosives was also seized from them. Their remaining six accomplices were taken to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).

ATC No 2 sent Zafar Ali, Muhammad Zameer, Tauqeer Ahmad and Muhammad Sajjad on a 14-day judicial remand for further investigation. Muhammad Kabir and Intikhab Abbasi were remanded to the custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for seven days. Their case was adjourned until July 1.
