#10  Went to the dirt track races at Big Diamond and watched Duane Howard win again. If it's Friday, it's Big Diamond.

#7  Got up bright and early to take #2 son to the 4H fair to look after his show rabbit. No, this rabbit is not champion material; but the fair has a category for pet rabbit.

Took pictures of kids washing calves and steers at the cattle shower station outside the cattle building. Took pictures of sheep in striped spandex (high fashion for keeping their wool clean).

Had cookout with family. Set off fireworks in the front yard.

#6  Worked on the fence, did my hunting and gathering, fired up the grill, smoked a bunch of pork ribs. Then Bill came over with his 3" Ordinance Rifle and fired a few rounds and then fired fireworks out of it. Beer was consumed.

#5  Went to a friend's house, drank some beers, set off some illegal fireworks, watched a parade, ate a couple hot dogs, waved the flag, and then watched a fireworks show over the river followed by the drinking of more beer.

#4  this year's fireworks were the best in years, Verlaine, hope you got see them clearly. My kids are all out of Santana High, but seemed to have avoided the brainwashing - all three are Republicans, go figure ;-)

#3  Frank G, perhaps I hear/saw some of your Santee fireworks. I was with old friends and their kids at Lake Murray, just over the hill from you, watching the fireworks there. Conventional (but delish) BBQ stuff for us. A few, uh, hold on - many many drinks of various kinds consumed.

Was happy to hear my friend talk of the brainwashing his kids get in school (we were asked twice to put out cigars we had as we walked to the lake, even though the admittedly dubious aromas were not crossing any of these peoples' nostrils) - happy cuz he recognizes it and says other parents talk about it too. Sad, of course, to hear how bad it is.

#2  swam in the pool, had exotic BBQ and dishes with my Samoan and Guamanian neighbors, many beverages, lost at cards, and watched the town fireworks here in Santee (they shoot them off about 100 yds from my back porch, so you feel the "punch" and hear the car alarms when the loud ones go off). Doesn't get much better, except for the cards :-)

#1  I made several batches of jelly; sold two things I had listed on craigslist; spent some of the money received just to help our economy; checked several times to see if Rantburg was back up (THANK YOU, Fred & Bad); let the cat in when the neighborhood illegal fireworks started; and watched the Byrd Park/Dogwood Dell fireworks on TV.

And hoisted a drink in celebration of our nation's birthday! :-D
