US praises IAEA-India deal for nuclear inspections |
2008-07-30 |
VIENNA, Austria: The chief U.S. delegate to the International Atomic Energy Agency says a deal allowing U.N. monitors to inspect some of India's nuclear facilities is a net gain for global nonproliferation. Gregory L. Schulte says the agreement between India and the U.N. nuclear watchdog is sound. IAEA approval of the so-called safeguards agreement is one of several steps needed to finalize a nuclear deal between India and the U.S. The agency's 35-member board of governors will consider the matter Friday. |
