Security tight around Bali bombers |
2008-08-01 |
INDONESIA has tightened security at an island prison where the three Bali bombers are being held ahead of their immiment execution, fearing a reprisal attack, a senior official said today. "We don't want a bomb to explode in any corner of this very big prison complex,'' Nusakambangan island prison chief Bambang Winahyo said. "All things or visitors entering this prison must be checked extra carefully. We don't want to leave any single loophole for any security disturbances or bomb blasts." The three members of the Jemaah Islamiyah regional terror network - Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Ghufron - were convicted in 2003 for their roles in the 2002 Bali bombings on the island of Bali which killed more than 200 people. Justice officials have said they will be executed by firing squad on the island before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan around September, after their last appeal was thrown out of court earlier in July. |
