Mauritanian PM released by coup military | |

(Xinhua) -- Mauritanian coup Monday have released the prime minister and three officials arrested in the coup, according to reliable sources. The Mauritanian military staged a coup on Wednesday in the capital of Nouakchott, arresting President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi and Prime Minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waghf. The leaders of Mauritanian coup military said in a statement that they released the prime minister and three officials, including Interior Minister Mohamed Ould R'zeizim. All four of them are allies of President Abdallahi and were arrested five days ago, reports from agencies reaching here said.
The president is still detained in Nouakchott and his whereabouts is unknown, reports said. Soon after the coup was staged last week, soldiers in the country announced the establishment of the State Council, saying that Abdallahi was no longer president. The State Council issued a statement, saying that the council will be led by Mauritanian's former presidential guard chief Gen. Mohamed Ould AbdelaAziz, according to reports. The coup came as Abdallahi have fired several top army officers and the country has been in a political crisis. | |
