| Sri Lanka: Fresh clashes leave at least 11 dead |

| (AKI) - Fresh clashes in Sri Lanka have left at least 11 people dead, eight of them Tamil Tiger rebels, said the Defence Ministry on Thursday. Among the dead were at least three soldiers, while five soldiers were injured, according to government figures. In recent weeks government forces have been conducting an offensive in the north of the Sri Lanka which considered a stronghold of the separatist group. The government estimates more than 5,993 rebels have been killed this year compared to 776 soldiers. |
