Five more people were killed and nine others wounded in fresh clashes between the Bangash and Turi tribesmen in different places of the troubled Kurram Agency on Saturday.

Fierce fighting was going on in different areas, including Inzari, Arawali, Balishkhel, Karman, Sangeena, Kundizar, Tangi, Bakhtzai and Alizai, where five people were killed and nine injured.

Reports pouring in from the violence-hit agency said that dozens of houses were severely damaged when rival tribesmen continued firng mortars and rockets over the Sadda city and adjoining areas from the hilltops of Ibrahimzai and Sangeena area of lower Kurram. The death toll from the 15-day clashes climbed to 299 while 412 have been injured so far.

On the other hand, Assistant Political Agent (APA) Shahab Hamid Yusufzai has denied the reports that the Afghan soldiers had been arrested in Kurram Agency.

Talking to media persons, Yusufzai said the Pakistani government had already tightened security to curb the infiltration of militants via Pak-Afghan border.

"The government will punish those behind the propaganda," the APA said.

Meanwhile, the Hangu peace Jirga was striving to broker a ceasefire between the rival factions.

"The Jirga is striving for bringing lasting peace in the area, but no substantial progress was made on Saturday," the sources said.
