| JI to observe World Hijab Day on 4th |

| The Jamaat-e-Islami has announced that the World Hijab Day, September 4, will be observed with the pledge to convince the world to acknowledge the basic right of Muslim women to cover themselves according to the commands of Almighty Allah. Demonstrations, rallies and corner meetings will be held all over the country on the Hijab Day while talks will be held on electronic media about the need for Hijab, said JI Women Wing Secretary Sameea Raheel Qazi while addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. She said two Hijab centres would be inaugurated in Lahore and Karachi with the name of "Qawareer Fashion." JI Women Wing Punjab Head Humaira Tariq, Naib Head Kulsoom Ranjha, Women and Family Commission President Aafia Sarwar, Lahore leader Rahat Basheer, Naushaba Ahsan and Saima Farooq were also present. Giving the background of the World Hijab Day, Ms Qazi said the day was observed all over the world as per the decision of a world assembly of Muslim scholars titled "Assembly for the Protection of Hijab" in London in January 2004, that had gathered to condemn the Sept 2, 2003 legislation banning the headscarf in France. She said the conference hosted by London's mayor and chaired by noted Muslim scholar Allama Yusuf Qardhawi was attended by over 300 delegates from the Muslim world who decided to wage an organised struggle to counter the discriminatory attitude of the West towards the Muslim women. She said the Hijab Day drew the world attention towards the violation of fundamental rights of Muslim women. |
