| Germany nabs alleged helper of 'terror' group |

| German authorities on Wednesday arrested a man accused of helping the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU) at the behest of his brother, who has been charged in connection with a foiled terrorist plot, prosecutors said. Burhan Yilmaz, a 21-year-old Turkish citizen, was arrested in the Frankfurt area. He was brought before a federal judge, who ordered him held in custody pending possible charges, federal prosecutors said in a statement. He is suspected of helping the IJU by making a €1,100 (US $1,450) transfer to the group via intermediaries in Turkey, and by handing over equipment - binoculars, a night-sight device and a camera - that were to be sent to a training camp in the Pak-Afghan border region. He could face charges of supporting a terrorist organisation and violating German export laws. Prosecutors did not specify when the alleged offences occurred, but said they were instigated by the suspect's older brother, Adem Yilmaz. Adem and two other men were charged last month in connection with a foiled 2007 terrorist plot to attack US and German targets in central Germany. They were arrested in September 2007. |
