Pak dismisses media reports on Lakhvi tape
2008-12-31
Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan on Wednesday dismissed as "completely speculative" media reports that the US has shared with it a taped conversation Lashkar-e-Toiba operation head Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi allegedly had with terrorists involved in the attacks on Mumbai on November 26.

"It is based on complete speculation that the US has shared information (on 26/11 attacks). Even if it has happened, the government of Pakistan has not received such an evidence," Information Minister Sherry Rehman said at a meet-the press programme in Karachi.
"Lies! All lies!"
She also said India has not shared any evidence with Pakistan.

Regarding the action taken by Pakistan against some of activists of LeT front organisation Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Rehman said whatever Pakistan has done was in compliance with "UNSC resolutions and the world community agrees that we do not give shelter to terrorists and non-state actors".

The Americans are believed to have given Pakistan a taped conversation Lakhvi allegedly had with the Mumbai attackers, the Dawn newspaper on Wednesday quoted US and diplomatic sources as saying. American audio experts had checked the tape and concluded it was genuine and that the speaker was Lakhvi, it said.
