Toulouse synagogue car-bombed
2009-01-06
TOULOUSE - ATTACKERS launched two cars packed with petrol bombs at a synagogue in France's south-western city of Toulouse on Monday night, causing damage but no casualties, officials said.

One car was set on fire and pushed by the other until it hit the door of the synagogue, at a time when about a dozen people were attending a class with a rabbi. The building caught fire but all those inside escaped unharmed.

Police found unexploded petrol bombs inside the second car, which did not catch fire. They said they were investigating the attack and had not made any arrests.

Earlier, Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie met leaders of France's Jewish and Muslim communities and security chiefs to deliver a message that the Gaza Strip conflict should not lead to violent acts in France.
You're a little late to the party, Michele ...
In recent years, flare-ups between Israel and the Palestinians have been followed by acts of violence against Jewish people or buildings in France, which has large Jewish and Muslim communities.

Some analysts have attributed the problem to a build-up of resentment among children or grandchildren of immigrants from Arab countries who feel they are poorly integrated into French society and are victims of discrimination in the job market.
Gee, wonder why they haven't integrated into French society? Maybe the Franco-french haven't been very accommodating. Maybe the immigrants haven't been interested. Maybe both.
Such frustrations, coupled with feelings of solidarity towards the Palestinians, have resulted in attacks on Jewish targets that have been strongly condemned by almost everyone in the French political establishment.

An Interior Ministry source said Ms Alliot-Marie was keen to avoid a repeat of such events. 'The past has shown that there are sometimes risks and it was better to make an appeal for calm. Events in the Middle East must not lead to community conflicts on French soil,' said the source, declining to be identified.
Worked well tonight, didn't it ...
The head of an umbrella body of Jewish groups, the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France, said in an interview with Le Figaro that aggressive behaviour by some protesters at pro-Palestinian marches had worried him. 'We must really not import the conflict here. It must not, it cannot happen,' said Richard Prasquier, who was among those who attended the meeting with Ms Alliot-Marie.

#7  There was a whopping 200 people protesting in San Francisco yesterday, and many of those were the professional International ANSWER types. And reaction on the SF Chron forums was decidedly in favor of the Israelis and against both hamass and the protestors. (Note that these same forums would be rabidly anti-Bush...not a conservative hangout.) We are not done yet, by any stretch.

#6  I would say nearly every large city in America has had demonstrations in the last week or so. Nothing set afire yet. We have time to act. But, we aren't. Just as freakin' dumb as the EU's.

#5  Fear, intimidation and prolific procreation are methods the muzzies have always used to spread their death cult. This is but one small example. Yeah, if and when the French finally wake up it won't be pretty but it's about damn time they did.

#4  All the 'integration' in the world wont make you prosperous if you are an illiterate, ex-felon that can't speak the language of the country you were born in. You have to be reasonable about your expectations in life.

#3  It won't be a pretty story

Nor will the story of the upper & middle classes when only the immigrants and underclasses breed.

Oh, and 5089, an irony in your David vs. Goliath analogy -the original David was a Jew.

#2  a5089 is right. When the history of our age gets to be written, it will be the story of what happens to societies when they lose social cohesion. The change from, we are all in this together as a country despite our differences, to, I only owe/need my family/clan/ethnic group/religion. It won't be a pretty story.

#1  Btw, "voitures-béliers", stolen cars filled with gas bottles is a very common tool used by "Youths" to torch schools, swimming pools, etc, etc, even the odd police station (whereas when not used as an incendiary weapon, it's a lmost a trademark of gypsies to break into shops & warehouses), so it's almost a signed act.

Anyway, waayyy to late to lament having imported the muddle east conflict in France, this was done systematically by the Chattering Class over the last decades, setting the israelis as bullies and the paleos as downtrodden "David" fighting the imperialistical "Goliath", exactly as the soviet propaganda about "liberation struggle" & "decolonization" wished. There always since have been random acts of terrorism by leftist groups such as AD, but the genie got out of the bottle in 2000, when the Youths reached critical mass (about 15% of the french population muslim???? More as one looks at younger age groups), and this really backfired onto shirak & co, especially during the 2005 ramadan riots. Not that french cops didn't warn long before that that in their minds, Youths (be they black or arab, but heavily muslim regardless) were re-enacting the "intifada", with them cops as the israeli.

Anyway, France, among others, including the USA with others specs, has got itself a deadly demographic & cultural timebomb, and while the wingnuts blame the Joooooooos or the Capitalists for this mass-immigration of a demanding and asserting and even colonizing third-world into their homelands, I'd say the french (the english, the germans, the americans,...) have no one to blame but *themselves*. Congratulations, dudes and dudettes!
