| Australia 'destroying life on Earth' says NASA crackpot Hansen |

| Yes, dear Rantburgundians, Australia. * NASA scientist writes to Obama * Attacks our coal, climate policies * Will destroy much life on Earth AUSTRALIA'S use of coal and carbon emissions policies are guaranteeing the "destruction of much of the life on the planet", a leading NASA scientist has written in a letter to Barack Obama. In that case, we should all flee to Mars to escape this latest example of monstrous Oz imperialism. The head of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, Professor James Hansen, has written an open letter to Barack Obama calling for a moratorium on coal-fired power stations and the use of next-generation nuclear power. In the letter he says: "Australia exports coal and sets atmospheric carbon dioxide goals so large as to guarantee destruction of much of the life on the planet." Prof Hansen said goals and caps on carbon emissions were practically worthless because of the long lifetime of carbon dioxide in the air. Unless some greedy plant life happens to suck it in. "Instead a large part of the total fossil fuels must be left in the ground. In practice, that means coal," he wrote. "Nobody realistically expects that the large readily available pools of oil and gas will be left in the ground." The money quote. 20 million Australians to destroy all life while 100 times their number of Indians and Chinese have no effect? Coal and nuclear to be stopped but oil (and enemy empowerment) to go on as now? Can we spot the agenda here? Prof Hansen said that emissions reduction targets, like Kevin Rudd's goal to cut emissions by a minimum of 5 per cent and up to 15 per cent by 2020, do not work. "This approach is ineffectual and not commensurate with the climate threat," he wrote of reduction plans. "It could waste another decade, locking in disastrous consequences for our planet and humanity." Professor Hansen also works in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Columbia University and has given testimony on climate change to the US Congress. For whom else is he working? He said he wrote to Mr Obama as the incoming US president is in a position to instigate global change and "his presidency may be judged in good part on whether he was able to turn the tide (on climate change) - more important, the futures of young people and other life will depend on that". Their future in their proper place, as subsistence farmers tilling the land for the benefit of a new aristocracy. He called for the end of coal plants that do not capture and store carbon dioxide and for funding for "fourth generation" nuclear power plants that could run on material now regarded as waste. You can fuel a reactor with socialist scare propaganda? Who knew? Ozniks on other boards are already demanding extortion payments from the rest of the world to hold this life-destroying holocaust at bay. One enterprising type is demanding Hawaii, the Fox newsbabes, and all the beer in Germany, and that's just for starters. He said he would blackmail the French too but they don't have anything he wants. |

Crackpot is too mild.Raving loony ratbag nutcase is more like it. Gen 4 nukes are a good idea though. The funny thing is we have the (left wing)Labor Party in power in Oz now and they have an irrational policy against nuclear power for Australia. Happy to dig up and sell uranium though. Go figure. |

| #1 Why would he single out Australia? Surely they use less coal than China. Wouldn't it be better to transfer Hansen out of NASA and into the Dept of Education. Stupidity at NASA has a higher ante than I would like. One more Al Gore loving crackpot in the education field will like adding someone with bipolar disorder to the Jerry Springer show. Who will notice? Crackpot consolidation is a good thing. Maybe NASA can be compensated for the transfer fee by some crackpot offsets. |
