Major security breach in Indian Parliament |
2009-04-30 |
A remote-controlled toy helicopter on Wednesday flew into the Parliament House complex in a major security breach, sending alarm bells ringing in the security establishment. Security agencies launched investigations to ascertain whether it was just an accident or a deliberate experiment by some unscrupulous elements to test the security alertness of the highly protected complex. The "sophisticated" toy, about one-feet long, came flying from the western side of Parliament from Talkatora Road 11:10 am, police sources said. The Parliament House and the surrounding areas in the radius of about 3 km is a 'no-fly zone' since the 2001 Parliament attack. The object landed near the statue of former president Rajendra Prasad in the Parliament premises and was detected by a CRPF jawan deployed there, the sources said. The spot was cordoned off as the jawan alerted the control room at the Parliament annexe which immediately rushed a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) to the site. Preliminary examination of the object showed that it was more "sophisticated" than just a toy used by children, the sources said, adding that "a technical mind" could have been behind it |
