2009-05-31 |
[ADN Kronos] A roadside bomb killed at least six civilians in Iraq's volatile Diyala province on Friday. "An improvised explosive device went off Friday, targeting a police vehicle patrol in central Khales district, north of Baquba, killing six civilians," an unnamed source told Iraqi news agency Voices of Iraq. The mainly Sunni province of Diyala is located 57 kilometres northeast of the capital Baghdad. It is populated by Kurds and Sunnis. While violence has fallen sharply in Iraq in the past year, insurgents are continuing to carry out acts of violence, particularly in the north of the country. On Wednesday at least four civilians and an American soldier were killed and 15 others were injured after a car bomb exploded in Abu Gharib, a western district of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital. |
