Aso, Medvedev agree on need for new U.N. resolution on N. Korea
2009-05-31
[Kyodo: Korea] Prime Minister Taro Aso and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev agreed Saturday on the need for the U.N. Security Council to adopt a new resolution on North Korea, including additional sanctions against the country for conducting a nuclear test, a Japanese government official said. Aso and Medvedev agreed on the matter during telephone talks after PyongyangŽs second underground nuclear test conducted Monday, following its first such experiment in October 2006 which sparked strong criticism from the international community.

#6  I think that if the Norks fire off an ICBM and the trajectory appears at all threatening to us, we will shoot it down. (Oops...sorry, wrong administration...we won't do anything and the missile will drop harmlessly into the ocean just off the Washington coast...near Bremerton).

The Japaneses may actually beat us to it since the missile would likely fly over them.

#5  Medvedev doesn't want the defense shield so he should help to eliminate any need for it, too.

A high degree of caution should be exercised when attempting to associate logic with Russian strategic intent.

#4  RJ, I agree the fox is indifferent to the squawking UN and why we need Wiley Coyote.

#3  If they get an an ICBM ready for launch, it may time for an EMP bomb delivered by drone. As someone previously noted, most of the Norks live in the stone age already and it would only affect their diabolical capabilities. China hasn't done much to help, although returning the Uighurs would be a goodwill gesture on Obama's part, and a nuclear Japan only compounds their argument for the "right" to nukes in an excalating proliferation race. Light water reactors for power would end the claim to "peaceful" purposes. Medvedev doesn't want the defense shield so he should help to eliminate any need for it, too.

#2  In my minds eye, I see a hundred chickens squawking, when anyone comes near, they squawk louder.

Doesn't make a damn bit of difference to the fox.

#1  Given all the delays, they might also start working on what should be done when NorK fires off its ICBM here in a few more weeks.
