Pak blames India for Hafiz Saeed's release
2009-06-02
Pakistan is blaming India for the release of Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Muhammad Saeed.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry sources have told CNN-IBN that they could not provide evidence in court because of what they called the non-cooperative attitude of the Indian government. They said they wanted to visit the scene of crime but India did not respond.

Sources in Pakistan also said that if India helps them, more evidence can be procured even now.

On May 6, Lahore High Court extended by 60 days the house arrest of Hafeez Saeed, before setting him free on Tuesday, June 2.

A three-judge review board of the Lahore High Court ordered the continued detention for 60 more days of Saeed's associate Col (retd) Nazir Ahmed but ordered the release of two others.

#1  Hafiz Saeed set free

During the proceedings, petitionersÂ’ counsel AK Dogar had claimed the governmentÂ’s plea to detain his clients in the public interest was wrong. Members of the JD are good Muslims who follow the example of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him), he said, claiming it was part of a Western conspiracy to defame Islam... Dogar submitted that the victims of the Marriott Hotel blast in Islamabad were bad Muslims who drank champagne.
