One Canadian soldier dead, five injured in roadside bomb blast |

![]() Corporal Nicholas Bulger, 30, was travelling behind his senior commander on Friday when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device. Five other soldiers were hurt, but Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance, who commands coalition forces in Kandahar, escaped unhurt. Cpl. Bulger was a member of 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton. He is the third Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan in less than a month and the 121st since 2002. A repatriation ceremony will be held in Trenton at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6, with the motorcade travelling through Northumberland around 2:45 p.m. and Durham at about 3:30 p.m. Hundreds of area residents are expected to pay tribute on overpasses as the motorcade makes its way to Toronto along the Highway of Heroes. |
