The Supreme Court was informed on Thursday that an inquiry has been launched against railway officials involved in the selling of Mandra-Bhon railway track at throwaway prices.

Pakistan Railways Chairman Samiul Haq Khilji appeared on notice before a three-member bench of the Supreme Court -- consisting of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja -- which was hearing a suo motu case against the sale of the 75 kilometre-long Mandra-Bhon railway track for a meagre amount of Rs 55 million.

Khilji said the inquiry report against the officials was yet to be finalised. The court adjourned the hearing for three weeks. During the course of hearing, the CJ observed that government property was being ruthlessly misused.
