Pakistan police files case against Musharraf
2009-08-12
[Iran Press TV Latest] Pakistan's police has formally registered a criminal case against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for detaining scores of judges under a 2007 state of emergency.

Last month, Pakistan's Supreme Court summoned Musharraf for imposing emergency rule and suspending the country's constitution in 2007. He failed to appear in court. Under Pakistan's constitution, the imposition of marshal law and suspension of the constitution constitutes treason and is punishable by death. Musharraf's move in 2007 came before a ruling by the Supreme Court on whether he was eligible to run for re-election while remaining the army chief. Musharraf is currently in Britain.
