Two Thai rangers, former official killed in separate incidents
2009-08-29
Terrorists Suspected insurgents on Saturday shot and killed two Rangers in the trouble-plagued southern province of Narathiwat, police said. The incident took place shortly after noon Saturday when four men on two motorcycles fired at the victims, riding a motorcycle on a Bacho district road. The first Ranger was hit by two bullets to his head and back and died at the scene, while the second victim was hit three times on his chest, right rib and right leg and was sent to hospital for treatment, where he died later. The gunmen fled and are still at large, police said.

And:

A former local official was killed and 17 others were wounded when terrorists presumed insurgents tossed a grenade at them as they played a traditional Thai variation of lawn bowling this restive southern province early Saturday morning. The incident occurred Friday shortly after midnight when a group 22 Muslim villagers were playing boules -- based on French petanque -- in a late night Sai Buri district gathering. Two terrorists presumed insurgents on a motorcycle threw their grenade toward the bowlers, and the grenade exploded as the assailants sped away.
