| Germans Form Right Wing Government Coalition |

| Germany's political leaders have formally approved a new center-right coalition government led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, nearly a month after a general election. The agreement was signed Monday night by the future government coalition leaders of Merkel's Christian Democrats, their Bavarian sister party the Christian Social Union and the pro-business Free Democrats. The coalition has promised an overhaul of the health care system, more help for families and annual tax cuts of up to euro24 billion. The newly elected parliament will convene for the first time Tuesday, and its lawmakers will formally elect Merkel a day later when the new government's ministers also will be sworn in. |
