Arabia
Saudi court upholds child rapist crucifixion ruling
2009-11-04
A Saudi court of cassation upheld a ruling to behead and crucify a 22-year-old man convicted of raping five children and leaving one of them to die in the desert, newspapers reported on Tuesday.

The convict was arrested earlier this year after a seven-year old boy helped police in their investigation. The child left in the desert after the rape was three years old, Okaz newspaper said.

International rights groups have accused the kingdom, the birthplace of Islam, of applying draconian justice, beheading murderers, rapists and drug traffickers in public. So far this year about 40 people have been executed in Saudi Arabia.

In Saudi Arabia, crucifixion means tying the body of the convict to wooden beams to be displayed to the public after beheading.
Looks like they got that process out of order. Oh well. The end result is the same.

#6  I believe the executions are done in the public square, Clyde Snoling5928, although I could be wrong.

#5  You know i concur with the sentiment. However, i've never actually seen any verifiable proof that Saudi Arabia actually carries out these "draconian" measures. Is it only 'saber-rattling'? Where's the proof?

#4  I think they got it right on this one. Rape five kids, one three years old and then leave the kid in the desert to die? A beheading and crucifixion is an easy ruling. Allowing the world to see how child rapists are treated is a bonus!

I don't have a huge problem with this. A little... crude, perhaps, but their hearts seem to be in the right place on this one.

#2  Well, if we're gonna slam the Saudis when they do wrong, we need to be man enough to give 'em props when they get one right.

This is a situation where "draconian justice" is fully justified.

#1  Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

From: A Faire To Remember
words and music by Eric Idle

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle - that's the thing.

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life...

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin - give the audience a grin
Enjoy it - it's your last chance anyhow.

So always look on the bright side of death
Just before you draw your terminal breath

Life's a piece of $hit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughing as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

And always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the right side of life...
(Come on guys, cheer up!)
Always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the bright side of life...
(Worse things happen at sea, you know.)
Always look on the bright side of life...
(I mean - what have you got to lose?)
(You know, you come from nothing - you're going back to nothing.
What have you lost? Nothing!)
Always look on the right side of life...
