#12 Speaker of their house? Hmm, it would give her somewhere new and tropical to fly her broomstick to. |

#11 There is a belief among leftists in Latin America that any non-white territory that requested statehood would be given the Turkish brushoff. Even many Puerto Ricans beleive that they would not be granted statehood. I beg to differ. Why should they escape having Nancy Pelosi be their Speaker of the House? |

#10 Haiti paid reparations to France for a successful revolution from the 1830's until 1947!!. Maybe France could help out by refunding the $22 billion they drained from the cesspool they created. |

#9 If the Haitian people really wanted to get in good with us, they'd apply for statehood, or at the very least to be a US territory ... Clean it up. Install some sewage treatment plants, water treatment plants, sensible land management, roads, building codes, power, law enforcement, etc. It could easily rival Jamaica as a tourist destination and quite possibly a lot of other places too. It might also have some potential for agriculture and light manufacturing. Definitely has cheap labor. |

#8 The French were the worst colonists evah. I include Quebec and Louisiana among the failed states they've left in their wake. |

#2 Not to mention a horrific indemnity imposed at gunpoint by the French that took a hundred years to pay off. |

#1 Haiti is an odd case in the world. They are the only modern nation born from a slave revolt. All of the capital of the country fled to Cuba and New Orleans after the French were defeated. They basically started with absolutely nothing and little expertise at anything. A very unique situation in the world. |
