| Bombs damage three schools in northwest Pakistan |

| [Dawn] Suspected militants detonated three bombs about one hour apart at three government schools before dawn Thursday, damaging the buildings but causing no casualties, police said. The schools were closed at the time of the attacks, which happened on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar, senior police official Liaquat Ali said. One facility was a school for girls and the other two for boys. "Militants damaged a girls' high school, a primary and a middle school, on the outskirts by planting explosive material," provincial education minister Sardar Hussain Babak told AFP. He blamed the attacks on the Taliban. "The militants, who are on the run in the wake of military offensives against them were targeting schools to create panic," he said. Senior police official Mohammad Karim Khan also confirmed the attacks and said there were no injuries. |
