2,000 Jamaat, Shibir men sued in Ctg
2010-04-14
[Bangla Daily Star] Police filed a case accusing 1,500 to 2,000 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir for attack on police at city's Anderkilla Intersection on Monday.

Sub-Inspector Mohammad Yunus Mian of Kotwali Police Station filed the case mentioning the names of 29 identified persons among the accused, including former Jamaat lawmaker Mohammad Shahjahan Chowdhury, on the same night.

Earlier on Monday, at least 15 people including four policemen were injured in a clash between Jamaat-Shibir activists and police following interception of their attempted procession by the latter at Anderkilla.

During the clash, Jamaat-Shibir men attacked police with batons, pelted brickbats and hurled cocktail before vandalising four vehicles and damaging two bookshops.

Police picked up 11 Jamaat-Shibir men from the spot.

Later on, six of them were released and the rest were produced before the court yesterday.

The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anisur Rahman fixed April 18 for remand hearing after police produced them before it praying seven-day remand.
