Strong quake in western China's Qinghai kills 300
2010-04-14
A series of strong earthquakes struck China's western Qinghai province Wednesday, killing at least 300 people, injuring thousands and burying many others under toppled houses in a mountainous rural area, officials and state media said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.9 temblor struck an area in southern Qinghai, near Tibet, on Wednesday morning and was followed by several aftershocks.

#6  stuff like this used not tooo not get reported until days later

Seismographs worked the same 50 years ago. That's why we could use them to detect subterranean nuclear tests.

I think people just didn't care as much back when the evening news lasted only 15 minutes and they didn't even report the stock market results every evening. Perhaps that also explains part of why politics seems so much more contentious and uncivil.

#3  oscar I think the reason it sounds like more is 1 stuff like this used not tooo not get reported until days later thanks tyoo satellite tech. It also makes good story of doom and gloom that the media loves too report on so much

#1  There seems to have been an above average amount of strong or greater earthquakes for the year .

I count 62 6.5 or greater earthquakes round the world since jan 2009. Although this seems less than 120 6.0 or higher for an average year . If you take in to account the number of 6.0 to 6.4 then the number is considerably higher

Earth mother is unhappy Bush was swapped for Obambi .. Well thats my spaced out conclusion !
