2010-05-19
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A remote-controlled bomb targeting a police patrol killed 13 people including Kulachi Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Iqbal, his gunman and driver, in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday.

Around 15 people were injured in the attack which occurred as the patrol vehicle travelled through Kachi Paind Khel, the police chief in the area, Gul Afzal Khan said. He initially blamed the explosion on a suicide bomber but later said it was a remote-controlled bomb.

According to the earlier police statement, the bomber rammed his explosives-laden bicycle into the vehicle, killing gunman Rashid, driver Mushtaq, Abdur Rasool, Abdul Younas, Abdul Sattar, Sabir, Younas, Arsalan, Shah Zeb, Nasira Bibi and Arshad Bibi on the spot, APP reported.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack. “Iqbal Khan was active against the Taliban. We planted that bomb and claim responsibility for this attack,' TTP spokesman Azam Tariq told AFP by telephone.
