| US urges Pakistan to be wary of Iran-Pakistan pipeline | |

| The American envoy, Richard Holbrooke, says Pakistan should be wary of committing to an Iran-Pakistan natural gas pipeline because any US sanctions on Iran could hit Pakistani companies. Mr Holbrooke says he is sympathetic to Pakistan's energy needs. But he also says that new legislation is being drafted in the US Congress to target Iran's energy sector, and that Pakistan should "wait and see". Pakistan and Iran signed a 7.6 billion US dollar natural gas pipeline deal in March.
