Fifteen Dead in Chihuahua Violence

Fifteen people lost their lives in drug and gang related violence in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, which included a Chihuahua state prison official murdered and another kidnapped.

  • Thirteen Mexican Federal agents were placed under arrest Friday for crimes including extortion and theft in Juarez, Chihuahua, according to Mexican news sources.

    Reports say Mexican Federal agents had encountered a Mexican Army officer dressed as a civilian on his day off, and allegedly committed several offenses, including abuse of authority, robbery and extortion.

  • An unidentified man in a state of decomposition was found tortured in a rural area near Chihuahua, Chihuahua, according to Mexican news reports.

    The discovery was made near the CERESO penal facility near calle Puerta Chihuahua. The victim's hands were bound and his head was covered with a black cloth bag. Investigators at the scene did not say how the man died, except he displayed no bullet wounds.

  • A man was shot to death in Juarez Friday evening after an abduction, of his brother according to Mexican news reports.

    Manuel Cordero, 39, was shot when he tried to stop the abduction of his brother near the intersection of calles Piña and Avena in the Granjero district. The abduction victim was in a van which was fleeing the area. Armed suspects riding inside the van realizing they were followed, shot the victim.

    Investigators said a .40 pistol was used.

  • A Chihuahua state prison official was shot to death Saturday morning, say Mexican news accounts.

    Carlos Paramo, Inspector de Custodios del Cereso Estatal de Juärez, was shot in his Nissan by armed suspects near the intersection of calles Yepomera and Hacienda Esperanza in the Hacienda Universidad district.

    Investigators at the scene say he was shot four times with .40 caliber and 9mm weapons.

  • One unidentified man was shot to death and another was wounded in an attack early Saturday morning in Juarez, say Mexican news accounts.

    The victims were shot riding in an older model Jeep Cherokee near the intersection of Calle Santiago Troncoso and Coulevard Zaragoza in the Paraje de Oriente district.

  • A Chihuahua state prison official was kidnapped Saturday morning in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, say Mexican news accounts.

    José Manuel Scott Gonzälez, chief of Trustees in the Chihuahua state CERESO in Juarez, was abducted at gunpoint by six armed suspects at a hair salon near the intersection of Bulivares Chipre and Hidroeléctrica de Chicoasén in the Los Olivos district.

    Several key staff including the prison director were said to have resigned their positions at the Juarez CERESO after a string of security events. At the moment, the CERESO is operating with a skeleton crew.

  • An unidentified young man was shot to death aboard his pickup truck in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, according to Mexican news accounts.

    Witnesses say a group of armed suspects riding in a vehicles open fired on the victim in the Märmol district. The victim tried to avoid the attack by speeding away in his Ford pickup truck.

    The pursuit ended when the victim was hit and crashed his vehicle near the intersection of calles Nueva España and 15th.

  • An unidentified businessman was shot to death Friday afternoon in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, say Mexican news accounts.

    The owner of Equipos y Avíos Integrales on calles Los Nogales in Chihuahua, was attacked by a group of armed suspects riding in a pickup truck. The suspects entered a commerical establishment near the intersection of calles Las Industrias and Rubén Jaramillo in the Villa Vieja district, spoke briefly with the victim before shooting him.

    Witnesses say the victim had refused to pay the shooters what is known a "Cuota", or protection money.

  • Four unidentified men were shot to death in Juarez Saturday evening, according to Mexican news accounts.

    Three men in their 20s and 30s plus a man in his 90s were gunned down near the intersection of calles Julio Cazares and Valentin Fuentes in the Casas Grandes district.

  • Four unidentified men were shot to death Saturday evening in Juarez, say Mexican news accounts.

    The attack took place near the intersection of calles Humberto Bernal and Manuel López when a convoy of armed suspects riding aboard three vehicles stopped at an auto repair shop, and shot two of the victims while they were in their Ford Ranger pickup truck. Witnesses say the suspects then dismounted, entered the repair business and shot two more men within the office. They then left without a word.

  • An unidentified man was shot to death in a restaurant in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Saturday evening, according to Mexican news reports.

    The attack took place at The Squids restaurant near the intersection of calles Nueva España and 15th in Märmol district. Armed suspects entered the restaurant and shot the man who was accompanied by a female, who was apparently unharmed in the attack.

    This murder was near the same location where at about 1300 hrs. a Ford pickup truck wrecked after the driver had been shot to death.
