#11  My favorite stanza:

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation,

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n - rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, for our cause is just, And this be our motto--"In God is our trust."

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

#10  And from our own version:

Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.

#9  Relevant for today, the 2nd & 3rd verses:

O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On thee our hopes we fix:
God save the Queen.

Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen

#8  Thank you for that, Shipman. It was truly inspirational. Of course, even if we did have to kick their asses, we wouldn't even exist if not for the English. But my mother still hates the Beatles. I myself think of the Rolling Stones as a kind of contagious mental illness.

#7  I mean of course the Battle of the Capes you don't get many chances like that against the 1st team.

#6  Interesting video, Ship. Kinda downhill after Churchill, wasn't it?

"The Royal Navy, thanks for taking care of us when we needed it and fucking up when it was absolutely required for us to survive."

I am so stealing that! :-D

0/ The Royal Navy, thanks for taking care of us when we needed it and fucking up when it was absolutely required for us to survive.

#2  The Red, White, and Blue waves before us,
The flag of the brave and the free,
Its stars and its stripes, forever glorious,
Gleam bright on the land and the sea.
Oh! look where the sunlight is falling,
And gilding the colors anew,
The stars and the stripes, they are calling,
Three cheers for the Red, White, and Blue!

In lands far away when we're roving,
And flag of our country we see,
Our hearts, filled with pride, begin a-glowing,
As we cheer the flag of the free.
Oh! look where the sunlight is falling,
And gilding the colors anew,
The stars and the stripes, they are calling,
Three cheers for the Red,
Three cheers for the Red,
Three cheers for the Red, White, and Blue!
