Beijing officially refuses to give STATS on how many Han Chinese have come into Tibet. DITTO on UIGHURS = XINJIANG > Local Uighurs + WORLD UIGHUR CONGRESS complaining about Beijing's [anti-Uighur?]internal migration policies despite overall improvements to Xinjiang's = West China's economy. |

| #1 This could well be an election winner for the Liberals who are currently trailing in the polls. There is a general feeling here that immigration, especially third world immigration levels are far to high. It's not particularly a race issue, although the media portray it that way. Pacific Islanders, East and South East Asians are generally well accepted because they are productive and generally law abiding (and frequently Christian). Most of the hostility is towards Afghans, Arabs, Africans and to a lesser extent South Asians. Most people would welcome more European skilled immigration. |
