#1  Sorry to quibble, but thermonuclear weapons are still primarily fission bombs, using the energy (primarily in the form of x-rays) from the first stage fission reaction to trigger a second stage fission reaction. There is a small amount of fusion that occurs in the first stage, but that only serves to boost the first stage energy release.
