| Three soldiers killed by roadside bomb east of Algiers |

| [Ennahar] Three soldiers were killed and two injured Wednesday in Algeria by an IED which hit their convoy near Baghlia, east of Algiers. The bomb, apparently operated remotely, went kaboom when a military convoy was passing arround 10:00 pm (local, 21:00 GMT) on a road near the thriving little village of Dar El Beida, between Baghlia and Taourga, about 90 km east of Algiers. Automatic weapons fire against the convoy after the bomb went kaboom, according to the site of the daily Al Watan for which the toll is three dead and four wounded. The information has not been officially confirmed. This attack is the first committed in Algeria since the beginning of Ramadan, August 11. But on August 6, the mayor of the town of Baghlia was killed outside his home by an armed group. "The mayor of Baghlia was killed outside his home by gunnies", said an official from his party, the National Liberation Front (FLN in power). The town of Baghlia is located east of the province of Boumerdes, a region known for being one of the strongholds of Islamist armed groups affiliated with al-Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). |
