The flash report on Thursday's 'Burg had the location of the gunfight near general Trevino, Nuevo Leon, about 40 kilometers northeast of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

Updated reports now say the gun battle took place at Ciudad Mier, just across the Texas border and 15 kilometers south of Falcon Lake, Texas.

Milenio just reported just after midnight EDST three Mexican soldiers were wounded in the battle.

The Mexican Secretaria Defensa Nacional reported that 27 armed suspects were killed in a ground and air assault by elements of the Mexican Army, the Mexican 7th Military Zone, against an armed group near Ciudad Mier, according to Mexican press accounts.

The battle started a little past noon when a Mexican Army combined air and ground operation commenced against an armed group news reports say were members of Los Zetas. The assault centered on an armed camp located on Rancho El Troncon.

Recon flights by an army helicopter preceded the operation. The battle started about 15 kilometers northeast of General Trevino, Nuevo Leon, roughly halfway between General Trevino and Ciudad Mier, Tamaulipas.

The area between General Trevino and Ciudad Mier have been a contested area before between Mexican law enforcement and criminal gangs since April of this year.

The casualty count includes 27 armed suspects dead. SEDENA reports three wounded soldiers. Soldiers also rescued three civilians held for ransom by the armed group.

Soldiers also seized 23 rifles, four 40mm grenades, 4,200 weapons cartridges, 532 magazines for various weapons and 19 vehicles, including a Humvee.

Reports are the camp was used as a training camp for Los Zetas members.

#5  The Zetas are being safe housed in the US by Mexican street gangs - there have already been local arrests over the same. All the Feds did was check complaints that the Mexicans were being "racially profiled" by the local cops.

#4  I hope, quite seriously, that none of these vermin are receiving shelter in the United States, like the Taliban are receiving shelter in Pakistan. Should that happen, it will be time to do some serious reconsideration of the role of the Federal Government in border protection.
