#2 There's a big difference, Paul D. First, the Taliban are lowly Pakistanis instead of lordly Arabs and near-Arabs. Second, while the Afghan Taliban look only at conquering Afghanistan and Pakistan, Al Qaeda looks at the entire world, trying to coordinate with various groups on efforts in their various areas of operation. Finally, the Taliban are financed by crime and the Afghan opium crop, whereas Al Qaeda is financed by it's cut of the Spanish American cocaine trade... as far as I can tell. |
