[Bangla Daily Star] Harkatul Jihad al Islami (Huji) leader Mufti Moin Sheikh alias Abu Zandal yesterday confessed his involvement in Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) rally blast case, 2001 before a Dhaka court.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Sahadat Hossain recorded Zandal's confessional statement under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Act after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced him before the court.

CID and court sources said the Huji leader, in a 19-page statement, admitted his presence and participation in the blast at Paltan Maidan in a rally of CPB on January 21, 2001.

Zandal is the first accused who confessed his involvement in the infamous blast that killed five people and injured 50 more.
