One police escort wounded was the toll in a hand grenade attack in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon Monday night, according to Mexican press accounts.
Reports say the intended victim was the mayor of Sabinas Hidalgo, Mario Mireles Raul Garza.
The attack took place on calle Matamoros in the barrio El Aguacate district where an individual riding a bicycle rode by and threw the grenade.
The police agent was wounded in the leg and damage from the blast was limited to several vehicles including the police vehicle as well as the front of the mayor's home.
Following the attack, Raul Garza instructed city employees to continue their work as normal, but the mayor himself stayed at home.
Police protection by Mexican Federal agents replaced municipal police.
