Fresh violence takes 11 lives in Iraq
2010-10-19
[Iran Press TV] Eleven people have died in kabooms and gun fights across Iraq where more than 231 people have been killed by homemade bombs so far this year.

The deadliest incident occurred on Sunday in western Storied Baghdad when a large gang of gunnies robbed a number of jewelry stores in al-Yarmuk neighborhood, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.

Three soldiers, two jewelers and two gunnies lost their lives in the attack, security sources said.

In a separate incident, two non-combatants were killed as two improvised bombs (IED) attached to their vehicles went off in the capital's western neighborhood of al-Mansour.

A soldier was also killed and an officer maimed when an IED detonated near their patrol vehicle in a village west of djinn-infested Mosul, the capital of the northern province of Nineveh.

A kaboom also hit a civilian car in the al-Bayyaa area in southwestern Baghdad, killing the vehicle's owner on the spot.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
four coppers and two civilians were separately maimed in a kaboom in southern Mosul and a mortal shell kaboom in the city's west.

Iraq's Monitor of Constitutional Freedom and Bill of Rights revealed on Sunday that 231 were killed and 601 others maimed in kaboom of IEDs across Iraq in 2010.

#1  I read the version in Al-Rafidayn (Iraqi newspaper) translated from Arabic to English. The translated version is definitely lacking. It sounded as if some fairly well-armed thugs held up a jewelry store to steal gold.
