2010-10-28
[KUNA] (KUNA) -- There was a heavy exchange of fire on Wednesday between Indian and Pak troops along the Line of Control (the international border between the two countries), said media reports.

Initially, Pak troops fired mortar bombs and rockets indiscriminately on Indian posts along the international border in the Poonch district of Indias northern most state of Jammu and Kashmir.

no casualty was reported on the Indian side of the border, added the reports.

This was the second ceasefire violation by Pak troops this week and seventh in less than a month along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

The reports quoted a senior Indian Army official as saying that the Pak troops, who were armed with heavy guns and rocket launchers, shelled Indian forward posts along LoC at around 1630 hours IST (Indian Standard Time). "Two to three posts came under unprovoked shelling and firing," he further elaborated.

The Army official further stated that the Indian troops retaliated and fired at the Pak troops, which led to heavy exchanges of fire between the two sides.
