[Bangla Daily Star]  An alleged criminal was killed in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the capital's Gulshan area early yesterday.

Rab men recovered one pistol, three bullets and two mobile sets from the spot.

Captain SM Shafiqur Rahman said a patrol team of Rab signalled two youths on a cycle of violence to halt at a check post near Gulshan Shooting Club around 1:20am yesterday.

Defying the signal,

the youths opened fire on the Rab men, compelling them (Rab) to retaliate with bullets that left the co-rider bullet injured, he said.

The other youth, however, decamped the scene on his cycle of violence, he added.
The injured youth was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead around 2:30pm, said the captain.
His body was later shifted to DMCH morgue for his appointment with Doctor Quincy. Morgue sources said the body bore two bullet injuries at its head. |
