| Turkey finds explosives in Istanbul |

| [Iran Press TV] A map, found as part of a probe into alleged "blackmail and military espionage," has led Turkish Sherlocks to a cache of bombs and ammunitions in Istanbul. Using the sketch, the Sherlocks unearthed 30 pieces of plastic explosives and 900 bullets in a suburb in the northwestern city, Anatolia news agency reported on Sunday. The digging process could lead to further finds. Last year, researchers found hand grenades, light anti-tank weapons and explosives in the suburban area, AFP said. The discovery was followed by the indictment of 16 people, mostly Navy officers, for joining in on a plot to damage the reputation of and oust the ruling authorities. On Thursday, Ankara began the trial of 196 retired and serving military officers who had been accused of plotting to topple the Turkish government seven years ago. The suspects could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted of attempting to overthrow Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Justice and Development Party or preventing it from carrying out its duties. |
