Nork military hardware as seen in footage of their latest military parade
2010-12-21
It's a bit like train-spotting but rather more serious. On October 10, Korea-watchers pored over live televised coverage of a massive military parade in Pyongyang, held to mark the 65th anniversary of North Korea's ruling party. Just like the Soviet parades of yore, it was a chance to see what military hardware the North might be showing off.

#7  FREEREPUBLIC/TOPIX > CHINA SAYS NORTH KOREA HAS RIGHT TO NUCLEAR POWER. Read, ENERGY-ONLY???

HMMM, HMMMM, methinks BEIJING = CHINA broadly recognizes the underlying opportunity wrought by a Chin-accepted INTEGRATION, LATER REUNIFICATION OF THE TWO KOREAS, as per demanding the full withdrawal of any + all potent US Milfors from the Korean Peninsula + possibly Japan, + to reduce US MilPol commitment to security of Taiwan, + to demand that both SOKOR + JAPAN NOT DEV NUCWEAPS, US-CHINA "JOINT" REGIONAL MISSLE DEFENSE SHIELD, etc.

CHINA wants to seen as the "good guy", but wid Beijing knowing that Pyongyang knows that CHINA WILL NOT + NEVER ACCEPT A NORTH KOREA WID CHINA/REGION-THREATENING POTENT = ADVANCED NUCWEAPS. CHINA per se is also unlikely to accept any kind of INTER-KOREAN REUNIFICATION WID A NUCLEAR-ARMED SOUTH KOREA, NUCLEAR-ARMED JAPAN, MISSLE DEFENSE SHIELD IN NE ASIA WIDOUT CHINA, FOREIGN FORCES, etc.

And Kimmie knows it.

1980's US-SOVIET "CONVENTIONAL FORCES IN EUROPE" [CFE] + INF AGREEMENTS > MEET POST-COLD WAR/9-11, 21st CENTURY US-CHINA "CONVENTIONAL FORCES IN KOREAS" [CFK] + INFK [K=Korea] TREATIES.

PYONGYANG MAY BE USING DECEPTIVE STRATEGY.

ARTIC = D *** NG IT, IT NOT WHAT NORTH KOREA SAYS, BUY WHAT IT DOESN'T SAY THAT MAY MATTER THE MOST - ACTIONS, OR LACK OF SAME, MAY HIDE ULTERIOR = ALTERIOR = MALTERIOR TRUE INTENT(S)???

#6  Shieldwolf No apologies necessary. I was just impressed that the turret could make it to 10,000 feet.

#5  Sorry about the double hundred in the previous post.

#4  Also, Soviet/Russian tanks used alcohol-based hydraulic fluids, which resulted in catastrophic destruction of the tank if the armor was penetrated and a fire started. There are lots of videos of T-72 tanks blowing their turrets 100 hundred feet into the air after being hit by a DU round from an M-1 or Challenger II during OIF.

#3  In the area of tanks, the old standard was Western (German designs first), Soviet (Polish built first), Yugoslovian, ChiCom, and then Albania/North Korea. With several of the Russian designs coming out of the Soviet/Russian factories, the tanks were running for 3-4 hours straight off of the line. Then they had their oil filters pulled, their oil dumped, and the 25 pounds of casting sand that had worked its way out of the casting channels was emptied with the oil.

#2  Good to see they've been wasting scarce foreign currency on useless crap like "anti-personnel lasers".

I gotta wonder if all these indigenous tank designs aren't just their armorers recycling rusted, clapped-out chassis into something bright and shiny for the cadres to puff their chests at & make the battalions look spritely in the next review.

#1  What I see is a whole lot of junk weapons, wonder if ANY of them actually work?
Given the poverty, I'll bet that critical parts are "Missing".
Anybody can make a missile, making it work is a whole different matter, making it actually hit whatever it's aimed at is a magnatude harder.
