Mayhem in Monterrey: 3 Bad Guys Bagged, 6 Wounded

Three armed suspects were killed by Mexican security forces in and near Monterrey, Nuevo Leon Friday and Saturday, according to Mexican press sources.

  • A police facility in General Teran was attacked by hand grenades during a robbery Thursday night. Reports say armed suspects threw hand grenades at the police station at 2100 hrs. Since the building was abandoned because of previous attacks, no one was hurt. Several parked police patrol vehicles were damaged by shrapnel hits. The suspects used the attack to enter the facility and steal a number of items stored there including radio equipment and bulletproof vests.

  • The hotel in Monterrey where Mexican Policia Federal are quartered came under small arms fire early Friday morning. Reports say armed suspects riding aboard a Chevrolet Equinox fired on the building near the intersection of calles Madero and Jimenez. Agents at the scene returned fire forcing the driver of the SUV to withdraw. The vehicle was found later that night damaged from gunfire, with magazines aboard. Blood stains in the vehicle indicates one or more suspects were hit by gunfire/

  • Two unidentified individuals were kidnapped in a shooting in Monterrey Friday afternoon. The shooting took place near the intersection of calles Navio and Junco de la Vega in the Contry Tesoro colony. Armed suspects apparently abducted the passengers of a Ford Edge SUV after their vehicles rammed it and another vehicle, a Toyota Corolla. Several assault rifle spent shell casings were found at the scene.

  • A detachment of the Mexican Army fought a firefight with armed suspects in the Cumbre sector of Monterrey early Saturday morning, killing one suspect, wounding one soldier and four civilians in the area. A patrol of the Mexican 7th Military Zone encountered armed suspects who were aboard several trucks, initiating a gunfight. The shootout took place near the corner of avenidas Paseo de los Leones and Alejandro de Rodas at about 0000 hrs. Damage to residences in the area was reported. Later reports say three of the wounded civilians were minors hurt in the detonation of a 40mm grenade.

  • A firefight Saturday between elements of the Mexican Army and armed suspects left two suspects dead in Allende, Nuevo Leon. The army unit rolled up on the suspects three kilometrs from the National Highway aboard a Ford Lobo (F-150) pickup truck, who opened fire on the soldiers. Return fire hit and killed the suspects at the scene. Soldiers seized one AR-15 and AK-47 assault rifles, and camping gear.
