A small Mexican Army unit in Reynosa, Tamaulipas located and rescued 47 individuals held hostage, and seized a large amount of cocaine, according to Mexican press accounts.

The unit stopped a suspicious vehicle Monday and discovered four suitcases with a total of 102 kilograms of cocaine.

Mexican news reports do not make clear how the rescue is related to the drug bust and only indicate the counternarcotics activity took place on calles Gomez Pedraza, Vicente Guerrero and Villanueva in the Arboleda colony in Reynosa.

The 47 hostages rescued included 44 Guatemalan immigrants and three Mexican nationals.
