Anonymous Threatens Quantico Hack Attack Over Bradley Manning
2011-03-09
According to a Financial Times article, Anonymous have set their sights on the military because of the inhumane treatment received by Manning as a prisoner in solitary confinement.
Let's review what the military is doing to Mr. Manning, shall we --

First, they're holding him in solitary confinement. That's because they don't dare set him loose amongst other prisoners. It turns out that these other prisoners, despite being convicted military felons, have quaint notions of how to handle treason and traitors. Plus, the military is worried that Manning could conceivably communicate with the outside if he were around other prisoners. Given that the average gangbanger in an Illinois prison can do the same, it's a reasonable worry.

Second, they're holding him au naturale. Why? Because he told the prison authorities that if he really wanted to kill himself, he could use his underwear. Since the world would never believe us if the man hanged himself with his Hanes, his clothing was taken away. Liberal progressive blogs complain that he should at least be given paper clothing. That idiots, when pressed, will espouse idiocy is amply demonstrated here.
"Anonymous members appear to have broadened their targets by suggesting attacks on the US military. On publicly accessible document-sharing sites, they have been discussing plans to target the brig in Quantico, Virginia, where Private Manning is being held under what his attorney said were unjustifiable conditions."

What do Anonymous plan to do, specifically? "Harass staff at MCB Quantico Brig to the point of frustration" and create a "complete communications shutdown" of the Quantico base's infrastructure, including internet pages and facilities.

Lieutenant Agustin Soliva, a Quantico spokesman, has called Anonymous' announcement a crime in and of itself.

All of this comes hot on the heels of Anonymous' hack of the HBGary Federal website, which was one of three intelligence firms with connections to the U.S. government hired by Bank of America to bring down both WikiLeaks and Anonymous.

#20  Simple solution: ID them with NSA super-computers, then post their identities and all associated info on the net. Let the wide, wonderful world of whackos on the Internet deal with them.

In Judo, you turn the attacker's force against him. In WikiLeaks combat, you turn the hackers' stealth into publicity. Natural observation: cockroaches don't like sunlight.

Just name everyone associated with WikiLeaks, and keep posting their names/identities until the entire cyber-world knows it all by heart. End of WikiLeaks.

#19  There is no such agency.

#18  The DOJ doesn't care about Anonymous. They are far more interested in seizing "pirate" website domains. It accomplishes nothing, but they keep it up, and Anonymous goes around threatening US military facilities unmolested.

#17  They have a website, start arresting people and send them to Gitmo. They will love it with the Muslims.

#16  Is not an attack on a military installation (cyber or not) an act of war? My SEAL team is only prosecuting this just and defensive war.

Good luck getting Holder to prosecute.

#14  We do not disappear our own citizens. We do not threaten to disappear our own citizens, even those of other countries.

Btw, how is 'our agent' faring in Pakistani prison? Probably not well.

Not yet anyway...but it is coming.

#12  ....btw, has anyone seen Jimmy Hoffa recently?

#11  Mine was a posed question implying that those who engage in such activity never contemplate all potential outcomes as a consequence. It's like people who engage in identity theft never contemplate taking someone's identity that may bring with it people who are looking for the person whose identity they've lifted. Everyone is betting the 'other guys' play by the book while they don't. I don't see that as a valid assumption.

#10  We do not disappear our own citizens. We do not threaten to disappear our own citizens, even those of other countries. We do not, however, object when the NSA gives their addresses and identities to the FBI about five minutes after the first attack on a military site commences. And we might snicker among ourselves when the first arrests are reported shortly thereafter...

#9  I think Manning should be given anything he needs. Underwear, extra belts, razors...a noose. Whatever he needs.

Perhaps more to the point, this is a declaration of war, and hopefully, will be treated as such.

#7  On one hand....there is Anonymous. On the other hand....the guys who may have come up with Stuxnet.

Hmm. I wonder who to bet on.

#6  The way I understand it ... lots of these folks have a little app on their desktop that they can turn on and off. It's of the same nature as distributed apps like SETI. As such they are under loose control/ receive commands from Central points. It should be possible to hijack the net and use it to attack itself. If it can force in a virus that's even better... one that does a "delete all"

#5  Yes, if they're 'Anonymous' who'd know they'd disappeared? Or connect the dots to show that something was going on?
Posted by: Procopius2k   2011-03-09 10:45

#4  Seal team? Hell, they'll just "disappear". Get up and leave all on their own they will.
Posted by: Charles   2011-03-09 09:59

#3  Let's just get the NSA to ID them. Then send a SEAL team to handle the attack.
Posted by: Hellfish   2011-03-09 09:51

#2  OK Kids, go do that. "Cyber" Attack a US Military installation. Do you know who is tasked with defense of these? The Central Security Service, which is a branch of the NSA. Yep, kiddies, go call the NSA down on your heads.

#1  ...Anonymous hasn't the foggiest idea of what they are messing with.
