Obama says Libya mission saved countless lives
2011-03-27
[Arab News] President Barack B.O. Obama told Americans on Saturday that the military mission in Libya is clear, focused and limited, and that it has already saved "countless" civilian lives.
The key concept being that he neither knows how to count the lives created or saved nor, due to the fog of war and lack of boots on the ground, is he capable of doing so.
A US -led coalition launched a bombing campaign last week with the aim of protecting civilians after Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy
... a proud Arab institution for 42 years ...
, whose forces were advancing against rebel strongholds and threatened violent retaliation against them.

US and other international forces continue to strike Qadaffy's forces and armaments with missiles and precision bombs and are enforcing a no-fly zone over the country and an arms embargo at sea.

Obama said Libya's air defenses have been disabled, Qadaffy's forces are no longer advancing and in places like the city of Benghazi, a rebel stronghold where Qadaffy threatened to show "no mercy," his forces have been pushed back.

"So make no mistake, because we acted quickly, a humanitarian catastrophe has been avoided and the lives of countless civilians --innocent men, women and kiddies-have been saved," Obama said in his weekly radio address.

Members of Congress -- from both the left and right -- have criticized Obama for failing to communicate thoroughly the goals of the military operation. Some have assailed him for failing to seek Congressional approval for the action, others for embarking on another military mission in a Mohammedan country when the United States is already embroiled in the Iraq and Afghan wars.

#22  See, 10,000 people died in Greensburg Kansas. The unfortunate soul count was really 10, therefore 9,990 lives created or saved.

(randomDJ - nym is southwest volunteer firefighter shorthanded for lack of anything better as department watched that hell twister form and followed it, response time +5 minutes impact. Anyone interested in stuff, last official count 2.25 wile diameter and was 'twisters within twisters'. Your HHS head took 3 days to have a public statement in order to coordinate with democrat headquarters about play, Sebelius had the remarks post state of union and now is in charge of who is and who is not responsible for Obamacare thus greatly expanding the power of said cabinet post now occupied by a post turtle. Happy Springtime y'all!)

#20  Speaking of malapropropisms, he said, "We saved countless lives," with a voice full of emulsion.

Generalities in this kinetic military action don't cut it, especially after the fact. Bottom line, events swept up the administration, and some people there felt we had to do something while France and Co took over the show.

#19  "I think you mean "nuanced"."

I dunno, tu - in Bambi's case, "nuisanced" seems apt....

#18  No, in this case it's "nuisanced". The MFM loved to play 'malaprop cop' when it came to George W.

Maybe.

My take is that Dubya is a cowboy and the good folks in Washington hate cowboys, ever since Andy Jackson sullied the White House with his friends, continuing with Teddy Roosevelt and to this day with Dubya.

They always have and they always will. It is one of the immutable charms, as it were, of life in Washington DC.

If you live in Washington DC and you know how long you have to stay on a bull in a rodeo to qualify, you are a cowboy and a loser, and you have no place in Washington DC.

Until you do.

#13  Is there a pulse?

No need for a pulse. At election time in Chicago the dead vote.

#12  Is there a pulse?

Is there a mouth? And a rectum? And words shooting out of either one?

#11  I think you mean "nuanced".

#10  The media used to complain that George W wasn't "nuisanced" enough to understand the varying shades of gray in foreign affairs.

Methinks nuisanced means you have an excuse to either not do anything or lie through your teeth about a situation to explain even the most illogical behavior.

How do you know a Democrat is lying?

Is there a pulse?

#6  Saved or created jobs, libyan lives, whatever - the perfect metric for the left - statistics that cannot be verified.

#5  Must've used the same bean counters they employed to show the 'savings' in Obamacare.

#4  He's not lying. He simply has no idea how many lives have been saved (if any).

#3  "So make no mistake, because we I, me, The One, Barry Soetoro, El Presidente for life....acted quickly, a humanitarian catastrophe has been avoided

Sorry junior, the jury is still out on that one.

#1  Well, that certainly supports the thesis from the other day, that he only intervened not for democracy, but just to stop Khadaffy.
